The Oregon Business Council reports that drug abusers are four times more likely to have accidents, two and a half times more likely to be absent more than once a week, and five times more likely to file a Worker’s Compensation claim.

Estimates are that a single drug-using employee costs his employer between $9,000 and $21,000 per year. According to the US Department of Labor, cumulatively, employee drug and alcohol use cost to US businesses is roughly $150 billion.
